Whisky Single Malt Cardhu Gold Reserve, 40% alc., 0.7L, Scotland
Cardhu Gold Reserve is produced by the newest Diageo distillery in Scotland. Cardhu whisky is generally known for being a fine single malt whisky, sweet and therefore easy to drink. This Gold Reserve variety was matured in oak casks, hence its hints of caramelised apple. Its flavour is slightly fruitier and more intense than the standard 12-year-old variety.
Cardhu translates as "black stone" in Gaelic and is found in the Speyside region of Scotland, close to the village of Knockando. The distillery has been producing top-quality whisky since 1824, when it was run by farmers John and Helen Cumming. They were previously notorious in the area for producing whisky illegally and selling it out of their farm kitchen window. Once turned legal, their whisky was given the name of Cardow and the distillery remained within the Cumming family until 1893, when it was sold to John Walker.
