Whisky Single Malt Cardhu Amber Rock, 40% alc., 0.7L, Scotland
Cardhu Amber Rock is the last single malt to be launched by the famous Speyside distillery in Cardhu. To create this new version, Amber Rock whisky was twice matured in charred-oak bourbon casks and is meant to offer additional notes of citrus, honey, vanilla, and spices.
Cardhu translates as "black stone" in Gaelic and is found in the Speyside region in Scotland, close to the village of Knockando. The distillery was founded in 1824 by farmers John and Helen Cumming. They had been previously known in the area for producing whisky illegally and selling it out of their farm kitchen window. Once turned legal, their whisky was sold under the name of Cardow and the distillery remained within the Cumming family until 1893, when it was sold to blender John Walker. Cardhu whisky was part of the Johnnie Walker blend range created at the time. Cardhu sits comfortably among the Top 10 best-sold types of single malt.
Its smell features a rich aroma, with notes of citrus, pear, and lychee harmoniously balanced out by tones of honey, vanilla, and caramel. Its taste is a euphonious combination of sweet and spicy, reminding the drinker of a delicious fruit salad seasoned with citrus juice, backed by a base of vanilla, chocolate, and oak wood. The finish is long and flavourful, featuring the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, with accents of citrus and cocoa.
